Recipe for Health with Star Chef Antony Worral Thompson

Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson dished up tasty treats to an audience of 70 people at Guildford College with student chefs and catering tutors assisting him. The event was part of the local British Science Festival. Antony cooked three recipes from The Prostate Care Cookbook, recently written by Professor Margaret Rayman of the University of Surrey with Kay Gibbons and Kay Dilley, to help tackle prostate cancer.

The evening commenced with a presentation about the scientific research and the benefits of a controlled diet by Professor Rayman. This was then followed by Antony and his helpers preparing the recipes in the College’s state-of-the-art kitchen, shown via a big screen video link to its Park Room Restaurant. His effortless cookery style and humour demonstrated how healthy eating can be quick, interesting and full of flavour. Afterwards the star chef, students and College chefs joined the audience to much applause for the food tasting and Antony stayed on to answer questions and sign books for the public.

There is scientific evidence of a link between diet and the development of prostate cancer, a condition which claims the life of one man every hour in the UK. ‘Healthy Eating: The Prostate Care Cookbook’, written in association with the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation, offers recipes high in polyphenols, selenium, vitamin E and D and vegetables like onions and garlic, which are believed to be beneficial. It also details which foods to avoid. Antony Worrall Thompson and Raymond Blanc were among the famous chefs who contributed recipes.
